Before you buy Pro
Every plugin has a gap between the feature list and the settings screen. Ours is here, in writing, so you can decide with it rather than discover it afterwards.
There is no video transcoding and no re-encoding. Transcoding was removed in 2.4.0 and the plugin bans exec-family calls outright, which is grep-verified in both halves. Upload what your members shot; MediaVerse will show it, not convert it.
The same reasoning covers documents: PDF, text, Markdown and CSV preview inline, while Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ODF get a download card. No server-side conversion, no LibreOffice on your box.
Neither half sells media. There is no storefront and no checkout for paid photos, and the price columns that exist in the schema are reserved and unread. If you want to charge for access, that belongs to a membership plugin sitting in front of it.
Replacing a file overwrites it. There is no version history, by design. Notifications are in-app, plus BuddyPress where it is installed, and there is no scheduled roll-up or digest email at all.
Standalone, MediaVerse gives every member a library, albums and galleries. It does not give you a social network: profiles with activity streams, groups, friendships and member directories belong to BuddyPress or BuddyNext, and MediaVerse hands the interface over to them when they are present.
